What is.....Pinterest?

How many times have you been in a meeting, or on a train or in a crowd or at a party, and someone starts talking about some social-web-internetty-media-thing-a-ma-bob like it's the second coming of you know who and you have no idea what they are talking about? It might as well have been a new laundry detergent in Croatia.

Me too. I don't pretend to know everything or even a lot of things or more than the next guy. What I do have going for me however is a want, no need, to know about things. New things and in particular, techie things.

So here's something new. I will endeavor to explain, in as few words as possible, stuff. Stuff like Facebook, Twitter, DropBox etc. If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Pinterest

Pinterest is basically a virtual scrapbook/bulletin board/ clip file that you can use by yourself, collaborate on with others and share.

Teachers use it for bookmarking "Pinning" videos and pictures of projects and resources to use in their classrooms. It almost goes without saying that many of them also share their ideas on Pinterest as well.

You can set areas of interest and Pinterest will bring you content. You can then browse that content and, if you find it interesting and/or useful, add it to one of your own pin boards for later reference. You can also pin things that you come across on the internet outside of Pinterest with the use of "Pin Buttons" for most browsers.

One of the superpowers of the internet is when you use resources that bring stuff to you and Pinterest is one of those superpower enabling technologies. Why search all day for stuff when Pinterest brings it all to you?

Pinterest apps for Apple and Android devices as well as a browser "Pin It" button available here.

Here's a blogpost that lists best boards and people to follow to get you started.

Give it a try and by all means, use it for more than education. I follow Architecture, Car Design, Food, Household Organization and more.

Between Common Core, Teacher Evaluations, Pop Ins, Student Engagement Observations, Goal Setting Meetings, Team Meetings and PPTs you have enough on your plate. Pinterest is on your side. Pinterest brings you cool stuff because you deserve someone doing something for you for once.
