News in a Blog. Kids Newspaper?

Here is some video I shot yesterday on the way home. It's of the flooding on Schenck's Island in the center of Wilton. I was uploaded with the Blogger video upload button. The point here I think is, what better way to get students involved in their community than publishing their own online news site? A lot of them have photo/video capability on their cell phones already. They could comment on event that are taking place in and around thier town. Teach them to be involved at an early age. The video about was shot with a Flip Video camera and was uploaded to Blogger less than 10 minutes after I got to the computer at home. Anyone can do this, anyone.

How Facebook Changed the End of Mom's Life

A year ago last August my mother was diagnosed with matasticized breast cancer and was told that we were treating not curing. To say that is a devastating thing for anyone to hear is an understatement. But we all rallied around the person who had given so much of herself to raise us three kids. My brother, who lives in Oregon, suggested a book. A book comprised of messages to her, relayed through us, from those people on whose lives mom had made an impact. Me, being a self-proclaimed techie with delusions of grandeur, suggested a group on Facebook since I had reconnected there with many people from my earlier life in New Canaan. So we created "Messages to Peg", an invitation only Facebook Group and populated it with everyone we could think of who had known mom. Beyond Web: Schoolhouse Rock on the Smartboard

In the First Grade classroom where I spend most of my time, we have the Smartboard projector mounted to the wall up near the ceiling. This comes with a plate mounted by the computer table that accepts input for the projector. One is the connection for the computer, then there is S-Video, standard video inputs (red, white and yellow) and a standard cable TV-like connection. This gave me an idea. I knew that my iPod had video-out capability. It would follow that I should be able, with the right cable, to hook my iPod to the projector/SmartBoard through the wall panel. Yesterday during snack, we hooked up my iPod Classic using Apple's Composite Video Cable through the wall plate to the projector. I already had Schoolhouse Rock on my iPod so we showed it to the class. It was a big hit but it raises some potential issues and questions.
