So mashups are being used by companies to generate interest in their products. Witness the now closed contest in Forza Motorsport 3 on Xbox 360 where you download cars from a Road and Track car pack, race them in the game taking pictures of the cars while racing and then make and submit magazine covers to Road and Track using templates they provide.

Then there is Big Huge Labs, as mentioned in Thing 8. There you create from scratch using a form. It's really easy. Here is another Forza car of mine in team colors on a magazine I created in BHL. I can see science, math, reading, writing applications for this.
